Some code samples in UE4 Blueprint /C++/C#/SC2 Galaxy Editor

By now I must’ve spent a couple of thousand hours neck-deep in the guts of various game engine editors. By far, the hardest for me to use has been the SC2 Galaxy engine, in part because when I was learning that particular engine I didn’t have as strong a coding background as I do now, but it’s also because of the way the data is structured.

Even so, I was able to pull off some pretty neat things (even if I do so say so myself) in it. You can have a look at Terran Interceptor.

Here’s a couple of examples of what those innards look like:

I moved onto unity after that, where I got to experimenting, as well as participating as a designer/coder in a game jam. Barrel Blast was the result of that. Aside from Barrel Blast, I’ve been toying with different UI paradigms, etc.

Lately, as in the past year or so, I’ve learned C++ in the UE4 environment, completing several learning projects and experimenting a bunch. Blueprint was actually easy to pick up after my SC2 and Unity experience.

 

So what have I learned from all of this? Well, I’ve learned to stop worrying and love inheritance and component-based paradigms in coding, that’s what!
